Oct. 14, 2026:
The Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA, Center for Addiction Medicine (SIGCAM), a fully integrated addiction medicine center in Cleveland, has named Karen Komondor as its first executive director. She will also oversee Rosary Hall Outpatient Services, which provides compassionate outpatient addiction treatment and support. Both organizations are ministries of the Sisters of Charity Health System and are part of the St. Vincent Charity Health & Healing Hub campus.
Komondor assumed the executive director role October 12, where she is responsible for strategic direction, clinical and operational excellence overseeing Rosary Hall Outpatient Services, financial stewardship, quality and compliance, and long-term sustainability of SIGCAM.
“Karen is an innovative health care leader, registered nurse and internationally recognized health literacy expert. With her extensive experience advancing patient-centered care, organizational transformation, education and community engagement, she is the perfect fit to help launch and grow the Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA, Center for Addiction Medicine,” said Michael Goar, president & CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System, which oversees multiple ministries, including SIGCAM and the St. Vincent Charity Health & Healing Hub. “She will help strengthen the bridge from outpatient treatment to the recovery community and expand access to addiction education, outreach and support resources to help transform how addiction is treated.”
Most recently, Komondor founded the U.S. Health Literacy Association, where she served as president. She also founded Health Literacy 360 LLC and served as its president. She previously served as director of the Health Literacy Institute at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center from 2009 to 2022 and as director, organizational development at St. Vincent Charity from 2002 to 2022.
“This position spoke to me because it brings together so much of what has shaped my life and career: health care leadership, a commitment to clear and compassionate care and my own lived experience in long-term recovery. I’m honored to help carry forward the legacy of Sr. Ignatia Gavin and her unwavering belief in the dignity and worth of every person,” said Komondor. “I’m looking forward to working alongside our team and community partners to build a center that supports people through every step of the recovery journey, combining evidence-based addiction treatment with the time-tested principles of 12-Step recovery. Together, we can reduce stigma, expand access and ensure that every person who comes through our doors has not only a pathway to treatment, but a pathway to a life in recovery.”
Komondor holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University. She is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, National Association of Professional Women and the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International.
