The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland announced that it will award $468,150 in grants for the second quarter of 2018. Second-quarter funding is focused heavily on health initiatives and health policy, as well as continued support of Catholic sisters and their ministries.
“This quarter’s funding really speaks to the origins of our foundation,” said Susanna H. Krey, president of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland. “Two decades ago, the Sisters of Charity Foundation secured the legacy of the Saint Ann Foundation, the first health conversion foundation in the country, which supported initiatives and collaborations in health to help improve the lives of Clevelanders. As the health care industry continues to learn more about the social determinants of health and their impact on our communities, we are also looking toward policy analysis and change to ensure that we are thinking about how systemic change can affect health outcomes.”
Approved grants for the second quarter of 2018 include the following:
2018 Saint Ann Legacy Grant Program
The foundation also awarded $100,000 to several area organizations through the foundation’s annual Saint Ann Legacy Grant program, which supports the ministries of Catholic sisters as they work to meet the needs of God’s people. This responsive grantmaking program honors the tradition of the Saint Ann Foundation, the country’s first health conversion foundation and predecessor of the current Sisters of Charity Foundation. This year’s grantees focus on improving quality of life for vulnerable populations, enrichment opportunities for targeted populations and transition planning for sister-led ministries and programs. Grantees represent nine congregations of Catholic sisters, across Northeast Ohio, which includes the Dioceses of Cleveland and Youngstown. Grantees this year include Blessing House, Centering Space, House of Champions, Interfaith Wellness Ministry, Julie Billiart School, Magnificat High School, Centro San Pablo, Urban Community School, Ursuline Piazza, Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown and The Village at Marymount.
Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland
Since 1996, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland has partnered with residents, nonprofits and community leaders to change the trajectory of poverty in Cuyahoga County. Its nearly $100 million endowment includes the first health care conversion foundation and first foundation formed by a congregation of Catholic sisters in the United States.
Through grantmaking, collaboration, advocacy and more, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland works to improve the lives of those most in need with special attention to families, women and children living in poverty. The foundation works to end homelessness in Cuyahoga County and to reduce health disparities and improve educational opportunities in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood. As a Catholic organization, the foundation extends the values of Jesus Christ through the mission of its founders – the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine – and also works to sustain the ministries of women religious.
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System – a family of Catholic health care, grantmaking and outreach ministries healing individuals, families and communities in Ohio and South Carolina.
