Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton supports new home of EN-RICH-MENT Arts Education Center

EN-RICH-MENT in Canton provides free music and arts education, plus leadership and life skills classes for youth ages 5 to 18. The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton helped support the building of a new education center in Downtown Canton dedicated to the educational programs of EN-RICH-MENT, with the new facility opening in June. The foundation's board of directors held a recent meeting at the new building.

Following is the text of an email update from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton about the meeting and about the EN-RICH-MENT Arts Education Center.

EN-RICH-MENT: Enriching and Enchanting

A newly polished gem in Downtown Canton, the new home of EN-RICH-MENT hosted the November board of directors meeting for the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton. EN-RICH-MENT Executive Director Betty Smith welcomed the group, providing a brief update on how the afterschool, weekend, and summer-focused nonprofit has been able to expand programming and resources in its new space.

The organization offers a variety of enrichment experiences for students in grades kindergarten through twelfth including dance, music lessons for several instruments including its locally famous drumline and color guard, dance line and poms, art classes, gardening, media, theater, and cooking. All programming is offered at a small registration fee, but no child is turned away due to inability to pay.

Smith explained that EN-RICH-MENT’s new home has opened amazing opportunities for the nonprofit, including its state-of-the-art commercial kitchen space, supported in part by the Sisters of Charity Foundation. The kitchen gives them the ability to serve dinner after school, which includes a full course meal with fruit and vegetables. They also receive healthy snacks as they leave the building. Smith shared that the kids surprisingly love the healthy options, often requesting seconds.

Once the bellies are full, the students are ready to focus on their chosen enrichment activities, providing unique outlets for self-expression. The Foundation is proud to support EN-RICH-MENT and its heartfelt mission to encourage, inspire, and support the needs of children in Stark County and beyond.
