The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton is intentional about making a difference in the community, one organization at a time, and is highlighting grantee organizations that made a difference in 2022. The foundation recently highlighted She Elevates, which is serving Canton’s next generation of female leaders by equipping girls (ages 8 through 14) to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and CEOs who live confidently and lead fearlessly.

Following is the text of the foundation's spotlight article.

She Elevates: Dedicated to female empowerment

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we focus on a hero organization dedicated to female empowerment. She Elevates is serving Canton’s next generation of female leaders by equipping girls (ages 8 through 14) to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and CEOs who live confidently and lead fearlessly.

She Elevates is the brain child of DeLores Pressley, an author, motivational speaker, and former Canton City School District educator. The organization’s flagship program, She Elevates Academy, covers entrepreneurial skills such as business plan writing, ideation, marketing, and public speaking. The curriculum, and the participants’ goals, are based on the four pillars of the program: Confidence, Attitude, Purpose, and Excellence.

Academy graduates are eligible to be mentored by local female business owners and executives, attend monthly Confidence Club gatherings for peer support and business brainstorming, and attend an annual Confidence Conference. She Elevates also offers periodic on-site programming in Canton City schools.

By helping participants develop a CEO mindset, She Elevates equips them with the confidence and drive they’ll need to become community leaders and business owners with stable and successful lives.

Foundation support has funded the purchase of B.O.S.S. (Bringing Others Success and Significance) boxes for She Elevates Academy participants. The B.O.S.S box is each participant’s kit for creating her empire; it contains tools needed for participation, including curriculum journals and calculators, and a cap and gown for graduation.

While She Elevates is increasingly attracting ongoing community donations, Foundation funding will enable a consultant to develop a fundraising plan and train the staff and board to carry it out proactively and methodically, thereby ensuring organizational sustainability.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation’s mission is rooted in systems change and the support of economic innovation. We’re proud to empower a female leader to make a difference in the lives of girls.

Two themes of Catholic Social Teaching are particularly aligned with the work of She Elevates:

• Call to Family, Community, and Participation states that the ways in which we economically organize our society directly affect individuals’ capacity to grow in community, and to participate meaningfully in society.
• The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers compels us to ensure that the economy serves people, and to support economic initiative.
