Promise Neighborhood awards scholarships to East Tech High School scholars

The Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood awarded scholarships to 12 scholars in East Tech High School’s graduating class of 2018 in a May 11 awards ceremony, offering a boost to get them started on the next step of their education journey. The East Tech scholars received a total of more than $2 million in scholarship awards from across the community, including full rides for two seniors: Sampson Deal to Eastern Michigan University and Shaleia Howard to Cleveland State University.

At the awards ceremony, Promise Engagement Manager Joe Black and Education Performance Manager Richaun Bunton were joined by Promise Ambassador Dolores Gray to present the scholarships.

This year’s scholars will join the Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood for the College Roundtable on June 13 to learn more about what to expect when they head to school in the fall.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, which is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, is the lead convener of the Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood. Promise is a collective impact initiative that works to transform the educational and developmental outcomes of children in Central Neighborhood. Initiated in 2009, the Promise Neighborhood brings together many partners, including philanthropy, residents, community service providers and schools. The community-based Promise Neighborhood Advisory Board provides strategic direction with substantive input and guidance for the entire initiative.
