Giving Back: A Conversation with Pat Littlejohn from the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families
Pat Littlejohn, executive director of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping fathers become great dads through 15 fatherhood program centers across the state, recently discussed the development of fatherhood programs in South Carolina with MidlandsBiz.
The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families is an outgrowth of the fatherhood initiative, “Reducing Poverty through Father Engagement,” launched by the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina in 1997 and the public-private partnership between the foundation and the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
The center believes that children thrive when an engaged, responsible father is active in their lives. The center supports fatherhood programs across the state while promoting father-friendly policies and practices and helping to erase society’s negative stereotypes of unwed, low-income dads.
